ABOUT THE PLAY

Murder at the Banquet, takes place during "The International Association of Mystery Solvers" banquet for the “world’s greatest detectives.” We have the great-grand-nephew of Sherlock Holmes, the great-grand-niece of Dr. Watson, who believes Sherlock was a fraud and that her uncle was the real genius, the French female sleuth, the aging female British mystery solver (Agatha), a seeming airhead, a gumshoe past his prime, a hillbilly sheriff, an upper crust British victim, and three walk-on waiters. So, the murder, which happens right under their noses, should be easy to solve, right? Not so fast! This has a surprising and delightful ending to send the audience on their way with laughter and love in their hearts.

This spring, The Theatre Guild production is comprised of three delightful one-act murder mysteries.

ABOUT THE PLAYS

The first of the three plays is: And Then There Was One, which is a very cute spoof on Agatha Christie’s And Then There Were None. Ten folks are stranded on an island, and people mysteriously keep dying while chocolate figures sitting on the fireplace mantle keep disappearing.

There are five men and five women. We have the butler (of course), the maid (of course), the doctor, the detective, the plain girl, the actress, the singer, the ingénue, the handsome man, the first victim, and the voice of the unseen host explaining the reason he has called all of them to this “party.” The ending of this play is totally unexpected, and is really, really cute.

The second of the three plays literally gets the audience involved. There is a play within a play. The murder happens during the rehearsal of a community theatre production called, Three Doors to Death.

The detective has gathered the cast together on the set of the rehearsal and asks them to reenact the scene during which the victim died. The detective also asks the audience to help him solve the crime and to decide the penalty for the murderer through their level of applause to the questions he asks them. The results can be different in each performance, and the actors don’t know which suspect the audience will select! The suspense is real (and enjoyable) for everyone in this production!

There are five women and four men. We have two “amateur actresses,” one “amateur actor,” a director, a stage manager, a part-time cleaning woman, and the victim - all of whom are part of the play within the play, and we have the detective and his assistant.

The third play, Murder at the Banquet, takes place during "The International Association of Mystery Solvers" banquet for the “world’s greatest detectives.” We have the great-grand-nephew of Sherlock Holmes, the great-grand-niece of Dr.

Theatre Guild Presents Monologue Mania

Theatre Guild presents a must see collection of nine monologues that will keep you on your toes at the February meeting.

Thursday, February 16

Clubhouse 7

Doors open at 6:30

Program at 7:00

Members: Free / Guests: $3.00

These monologues include "The Man Who Married a Dumb Wife" (not what one may think) featuring a woman whose coffee table has a mind of its own. Other monologues include a mad adventure in the grocery store while simply trying to buy a can of tuna fish; the bone chilling opening to the female serial killer's story from the movie 'Monster'; a man's tragic discovery that it's too late for his special dream to come true; a woman's wish to live in a McDonalds, plus other intriguing scenes.

These monologues have been directed to be "mini plays" that an audience will enjoy. So furniture props costumes and movement have been uniquely incorporated into each scene.

Monologue Mania is performed by the actors who participated in the Monologue Course taught by Jeanne Sanner for The Village Theatre & Film Arts Academy.

An evening of monologues has probably never reflected as much mania as this.
